Asta Networks Hopes to End DoS Attacks
Wednesday November 22 by Staff WriterTired of Denial of Service attacks? Asta Networks, an Internet reliability company, and Internet2, an organization made up of over 180 US universities working together with industry and government to create tomorrow's Internet, are developing the tools to stop malicious hackers. Their goal is to keep traffic levels consistent on the web by stopping Internet interference caused by DoS attacks.
In a DoS attack, hackers can control multiple computers and launch an attack on a single website, forcing it to shut down due to a flood of heavy traffic. Asta Networks hopes to stop this by developing the tools to detect DoS attacks before they have a chance to shut down the website. Steve Corbats, director of backbone infrastructure at Internet2, said, "Internet2 is focused on developing and deploying the capabilities needed to ensure reliably high-performance networking….We are pleased to be working with Asta Networks to test and develop viable, distributed methods to respond to DoS attacks where they enter the network, before they can do damage. Understanding more about DoS attacks will ultimately help us eliminate a significant threat to tomorrow's Internet." According to a press release from Asta Networks, the company has just completed the first phase of its development and is now collecting data on network traffic, router behavior and new DoS attack tools. When the program is fully developed, it will offer the Internet2 community a full line of defense against DoS attacks. For more information: Asta Networks >>discuss this in the forums
