GolfLogix Offers Tracking and Internet Record to Improve Golf Game

Tuesday November 28 by Staff Writer
Scottsdale based GolfLogix, Inc. has developed a wireless device that tracks the club used and the distance and location of each shot. The information will be automatically uploaded to a personal web site for further analysis. A computer located at the golf course prints out a full color map of each golfer's game by hole and individual shot.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) enabled handheld is operated by simply scrolling and clicking. The system was designed for ease of use.

Blake Irving, a Vice President in the Personal Systems and Devices Group at Microsoft Corporation and Board Member who recently invested in the company, commented after using the system, "I was blown away by the system's ease of use and the benefits for the golfer. I was surprised how fun it was and how quickly it became habitual… Their offline product will drive consumers and the entire golf industry online."

Prototype testing is currently underway. Installations at golf courses will begin in January 2001. Profit will be earned for the company by golf courses renting the GolfLogix system. Each course will have the options of charging a usage fee, offsetting the expense with other services, absorbing it in membership fees, or engaging in a shared revenue program with GolfLogix.
